There is a possibility for employers to more permanently hire their OPT employee by submitting an application for an H-1B visa, where the company would become the employee's sponsor.
The H-1B application opens each year in April and quotas are reached extremely fast. If and once approved, the H-1B visa will become in effect on October 1st of that year and is generally valid for 3 years. The employee can continue working in the meantime thanks to the Cap Gap rules.
